On this faithful day my friends and I took a walk to a primary school where we saw a Political Ward Councilor and his entourage standing in a strategic place and having a conversation.Suddenly a very old man, old enough to be his father, came squatting to greet him. He responded and smiled. After the pleasantries the old man stood up and left.I was so irritated by that piece of act.To me, leadership should never take away our humanity. Respect should not move in only one direction but what I saw was totally opposite.I knew the councilor did not ask the old man to squat. But what stayed with me was that he did not stop him either. He smiled as if the moment was normal.Right there I made a quiet decision in my young mind.Leadership should protect human dignity, not enjoy its surrender.If people feel the need to make themselves smaller in order to honor you, something has already gone wrong. Real leadership should make people stand taller, not squat lower.This has been the guiding principle in how I live, serve and lead people. It forms the basic for all my frameworks.
